Well, there is good news as far as the fishing is concerned here on the Missouri River from Holter Dan to the town of Cascade.  Tricos! Today was the start of great hatches of the small mayfly called Trico, this morning there were huge clouds of the small black and white , generally , a size #20, and many times, even smaller bug, #22 , #24.

The water has cleared, the weeds have started, but not as bad as in years past, and the flows have stabilized, things look much better as far as the fishing is concerned! The hopper bite has just started, and will improve, along with the Ant and beetle fishing, which is generally better in the warmth of the day. The Tricos are more or less a morning hatch, today it started around 9:00 am , and, the spinner fall was starting around the same time, peaking around 10-10:30 am.

As far as nymphs go, small in the am is better, sizes #18 and #20 in a purple lightening  bug tied under a larger nymph seem to produce a few, along with a large assortment of favorites….

See you out there, things just look better on the river!
